A cat was reunited with its owners — more than a decade after going missing.

Tabby Fergus, aged 14, vanished from his home in Forres, Moray, more than a decade ago leaving his family devastated.

He was last seen at the end of the field, and he was feared to have been killed.

Mum-of-two Fiona Mutter, 45, was stunned when she got a call from the Cats Protection League asking if she had a cat named Fergus — who had been found nearly 80 miles away in Aberdeen.

She took her son, Kyle, 19, for a quick tour of the shops to pick up another cat litter tray and more bowls, and then went to collect the errant cat.

Fergus had been living at a recycling centre in Aberdeen since October but Fiona believes he had been enjoying home comforts with another family, as he headed straight for the beds and the sofa when he came home.

He still has yet to use his new cat bed which has been adopted by the family’s dog.

Fiona said: ‘I got a call saying “are you missing Fergus?”, I said “over 10 years ago.”‘

‘We’ve got a big field and somebody had seen him down there, and we think he got in a car or a van.

‘Fergus is 14 now, all he wants to do is sleep and eat’ (Picture: PA)

‘I just wish he could talk, so he can tell us where he has been for ten years.

‘Fergus is 14 now, all he wants to do is sleep and eat.

‘I don’t know if he remembers us.

‘We bought a new cat bed which he hasn’t used once, he sleeps on the bed.

‘He’s home now, I can’t thank the Cats Protection League enough.

‘Without them we wouldn’t have had him in the first place.’

The story comes soon after a mum was reunited with her cat which had been missing for eight months – after she recognised its meow on the phone.
