The husband of a former Miss America contestant was fatally shot in front of their two-year-old son.

Miss Mississippi 2008, Christine Kozlowski, revealed in a Facebook post that a teenager shot her husband Thomas Hand Jr, 37, dead on the street as their toddler Roman watched from their home.

Paramedics responded to reports of a person shot at Texas Street in Montgomery, Alabama, around 4.30pm on Saturday. Hand suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead on the spot.

Law enforcement officials arrested Jerimiah Walker, 17, at the scene.

Kozlowski, 33, confirmed her husband’s death on Facebook the following day.

‘Thank you for all of the thoughts and prayers during this time of the passing of my husband Tommy Hand,’ Kozlowski wrote.

‘I feel the love and support from everyone and just wanted to let everyone know that indeed Tommy was shot and killed last night on Texas Street in Montgomery AL.

Kozlowski added that she was overwhelmed with retelling what happened and would later ‘explain everything to everyone’.

The couple, who wed in 2016, just two days before Hand’s death had revealed that they were expecting their second child.

‘The next Baby Hand Coming August 2022. Rest up baby boy, Mom is going to need your help,’ Kozlowski wrote on Facebook to her son.

That day, Hand had praised Kozlowski as ‘beauty, smarts, caring about others, being an incredible mother, wife, and the list could go on and on’.

Walker has been charged with capital murder and is being held at Montgomery County Detention Center. The secondary crime required to charge a suspect with capital murder is shooting someone in front of a child under 14 years old, said authorities, according to The Sun.

Police have not yet revealed a motive, and an investigation on the shooting continues. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
